Be Very Alert! – By Val Hollard (NZ)

On Watch at the Door                                                                                               No 288, 3 June 2019

I was reading this passage and suddenly realised that there is a gap between verses 2 and 3. In verse 2, Judah as well as Jerusalem will be besieged by only the surrounding nations. In verse 3 we now have all the nations of the earth gathering against Jerusalem, but they will all be destroyed. These are two separate events. Firstly only the surrounding nations attack Jerusalem, which are Muslim countries, then later all the nations. There are many gaps like this in the Bible where one prophecy runs into another.

Verse 2 is aligned with Matthew 24:15-20 and possibly Psalm 83. Jesus refers us to Daniel. From Daniel 9:27 we know that half way through the last 7 years the Antichrist will set up an image in the yet-to-be-built temple. Jesus says that when the people in Judea see this they are to flee. Their lives will be in danger.

Verse 3 aligns with Joel 3 (and also Rev 16). The nations think they are heading to Israel in order to destroy Jerusalem, but God draws them to judge them because they have divided up His land. Israel has already been partly divided up and the area God has promised to Israel is much larger than the current area they occupy.

Following both attempts to attack Judea (part of the so-called ‘West Bank’) and Jerusalem, Israel will at last recognize her Messiah as He comes to them. He will pardon them, restore them as a nation and they will receive all the Promised Land. This will be an awesome day and one Israel has looked forward to for centuries. God is faithful and His promises will be fulfilled.

Later in June, President Trump will reveal the first part of his Middle East plan at a conference in Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. Trump and Jared Kushner have persuaded some Arab countries to donate billions of dollars to the Palestinians for economic development. The Palestinian Authority has refused to take part in the talks. Any money given to the Palestinians is used to reward martyrs. The Palestinians want Israel and Jerusalem and this is what they teach their children. They want the whole land of Israel and their maps show all Israel as belonging to the Palestinians. Satan’s grand plan is to destroy Jerusalem and all Jews.

The Bahrain conference is called a ‘peace to prosperity workshop.’ We should note what Paul told the Thessalonians: When people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labour pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.’ (1 Thess 5:3) Paul continues and says that this day should not surprise us; rather we should be alert and self-controlled.

All the indications are that events relating to the end-times are picking up speed and we are living very close to these last 7 years. Be alert and sober!

Hundreds of illegal Muslim migrants from Africa stormed the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris shouting, “France does not belong to the French.” The protest was organized by the migrant support group La Chapelle Debout, which said their members call themselves “Black Vests.” The group comes amid the country’s months-long “Yellow Vests movement” over tax reforms.

Burkina Faso is a landlocked West African country. It has now become the latest land for Islamic jihad and Christian slaughter. Of 2,869 schools in Burkina Faso, 1,111 have been closed in the last three years as a direct result of Islamic extremist violence. Besides churches, schools are also a favourite target of the militants, who are pushing to make the country an Islamic state and impose Sharia Law.

Homosexual Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has equated radical Shia Islam and the Islamic ideology behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks with Christianity’s capacity for extremism.

In the UK, a Darlington church is under fire after offering to cover up crosses and allow Muslims to say prayers in its building. It had initially invited members of the Muslim community for an event to mark Ramadan.

AS IN THE DAYS OF LOT (Luke 17:28)

A middle school in North Carolina has hosted an array of local drag queens to talk, educate, and celebrate ‘how people are different.’

It is important when checking into a hospital to give ones biological sex as men and women differ in anatomy, gene expression, how they react to medications, and so forth. In a recent case “A pregnant woman living as a transgender male arrived to a hospital with severe abdominal pains and nurses didn’t immediately consider it an emergency because she appeared to be an obese man who stopped taking blood pressure medication.” As a result the baby died.

Recently, many parents across California took their kids out of school for a Friday to protest the state’s sex-ed curriculum that supports the belief that some people are born in the wrong body and can change their sex. Children are taught this as part of the state’s “gender-inclusive” comprehensive sex education curriculum and related materials.

An Australian public school landed in hot water after announcing that students not wearing pro-LGBT clothing on a coordinated dress-down day would be expected to double their ‘voluntary’ charitable donations.

The Democrat-controlled US House of Representatives has passed the Equality Act, a hotly-debated legislation seeking to codify LGBT non-discrimination protections into federal law. It has yet to be passed into law. Religious freedoms would be severely restricted by it.

NZ’s Parliament House now has a refurbished select committee room called the Rainbow Room. It was first opened in 2008 and is dedicated to the nation’s gay, lesbian, and trans-gender community, and to their contribution to NZ society. The room now features flags representative of the rainbow community, photographs of former and current LGBTI MPs, and framed copies of six Bills of significance.

Record weather events have been occurring in many places. Massive bushfires in Israel have been destroying entire neighbourhoods caused by an extreme heatwave. Students have been opting out of school again to join the global climate strikes saying they are ‘absolutely terrified,’ and are setting things up for mass hysteria. NZ’s Zero Carbon Bill which aims to lower greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050 has passed its first reading. The students say that is not good enough and they want action by 2030. An increasing number of younger Americans are blaming climate change for not saving for their own retirement. They say that because the world won’t exist when they retire there’s no need to save any money.

Floods and droughts are devastating crops around the planet and a global food crisis is looming. In Australia, the worst drought in more than a century is causing a severe grain shortage and the price of bread looks set to rise. NZ imports most of its wheat from Australia so we can expect to be affected too.

And to top it all off, the Noah’s Ark Encounter in Kentucky is suing an insurance company to reimburse them after heavy rains caused damage to the Ark! But note, God is still in charge of the weather just as He was at the time of Noah.

From a recent article in the NZ Herald: “Twelve years left to save the planet” read one recent headline; “1 million species on the brink of extinction” read another. Little wonder that eco-anxiety – “a chronic fear of environmental doom” – is attracting growing attention, particularly as a problem among younger generations.” An increasing number of professional organisations are writing about this growing problem. If you are anchored in Jesus you will have no fear of what is coming on this earth as your hope is not in this world, but in the life that is to come.

After Christian rugby player Israel Folau was sacked for quoting the Bible on homosexuality, the rugby players’ union (RUPA) plans to set up a committee to review how players can express their faith in a way it considers acceptable. Christian players will be challenged to either follow God or follow RUPA. The Bible tells us quite clearly how to express our faith. One of the foremost things is to get the gospel message out and make disciples of people.

Raymond Ibrahim writing for the Gatestone Institute says that the genocide of Christians has reached an “alarming stage.” Among the worst persecutors are in countries where Islamic Sharia Law is practiced.

In Germany, a government commissioner on anti-Semitism has warned Jews about the potential dangers of wearing the traditional kippah skullcap in the face of rising violent anti-Jewish attacks.

A proposed new bill in Ireland would make it illegal for Irish citizens to buy goods and services from Israeli citizens in the so-called occupied territories, which includes the old city of Jerusalem.

Legislation proposed in the Canadian province of Ontario would criminalize public displays by Christians deemed hateful to Muslims, the LGBT community and other victim groups designated by the left.

Vision Church of Atlanta, Georgia has added a psychic medium to their staff. Lakara Foster, who claims she has the ability to talk with the dead, is now a licensed minister at the church.

I’ve had a number of unpleasant health problems lately and I’d like to share how I have coped with them as they are also useful preparation for the very troubling times that are coming on Christians very rapidly.

Becoming a Christian later in life, I was not exposed to good Christian songs. The only time I really sing a lot is when driving my car and I had learnt some Christian songs to sing then. However, I have been led to learn more of the verses and choruses of some songs that became a great comfort to me when suffering and especially at night when lying awake.

In Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 the apostle Paul tells us to sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, with gratitude in our hearts to God and giving thanks. Doing this can have a very comforting effect. In Philippians 4, after we are told not to be anxious about anything, Paul tells us to think about things that are excellent and praiseworthy. Jesus is of course the one most worthy of praise. But filling our hearts with good Christian songs that have been written by inspired people and are scriptural is also true, noble, pure, lovely and admirable.

Some of the songs I have found invaluable are ‘I serve a risen saviour,’ ‘Because He lives,’ ‘How great Thou art,’ ‘Be still my soul the Lord is on your side,’ ‘Blessed assurance,’ and ‘Great is thy faithfulness.’

There are very difficult days coming rapidly and many Christians are anxious for all sorts of reasons. These songs remind us that God is in control and that He will guide us and lead us ‘through all the stormy blast.’ It is far superior to use God’s Word and biblically-based things to give us peace, rather than to try and use pagan practices such as visualisation, yoga and mindfulness.

I expect to be shifting house sometime soon and will not be able to produce the Alerts regularly for a while. I will be moving into a two-bedroom apartment at a retirement village which is very conveniently located for friends, a church I am familiar with and to shops. I would very much appreciate your prayer support. I may not be able to reply to all the emails or letters you send me at this time.

This budget has taken a totally different direction from previous ones. Nearly $2   billion will be spent over five years on mental-health initiatives.

One of the aims is to put mental health workers in GP clinics as often a GP is the first port of call for many people in distress, such as those suffering depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. The irony is that the budget also includes funding for things that can lead to these symptoms: transgender surgery and for the cannabis referendum next year.

An extra $3 million over four years has been allocated for transgender surgery. The Rainbow Youth executive director said that it is “fantastic.” There is a waiting list and a growing demand for the surgery.

We are certainly speeding into the days of Lot as Jesus told us, but is transgender surgery safe? A Swedish study over 30 years documents their lifelong mental unrest. Ten to 15 years after surgical reassignment, the suicide rate of those who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery rose to 20 times that of comparable peers. Yet the wellbeing budget wants to tackle suicide rates. The irony of it!

It is impossible to change a person’s sex. They still retain their entire DNA, brain differences and so forth. Transgendered men do not become women, nor do transgendered women become men. They become feminized men or masculinized women, counterfeits of the sex they want to identify with. Dangerously, surgery and hormones are being given to younger and younger people. This is straight out child abuse. It does not produce wellbeing.

The budget has also included funding of $13.4 million for the referendum on legalising recreational cannabis next year. It is well-proven that cannabis can have devastating effects on people. Cannabis today is at least five times stronger than what it used to be. The latest poll shows that most NZ voters do not want recreational cannabis to be legalised.

The Lighthouse Trails booklet “The Cross and the Marijuana Leaf” by Linda Nathan provides clear guidelines for dealing with today’s exploding drug culture. Cannabis can affect people differently, but some of the harmful effects seen include hallucinations and distortion of reality, psychosis and other mental illnesses. These can come on suddenly. It can fuel violence, especially domestic violence. Many in the medical community warn about the dangers of cannabis. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that “For adolescents, marijuana can impair memory and concentration, interfering with learning, and is linked to lower odds of completing high school or obtaining a college degree. It can alter motor control, coordination and judgment, which may contribute to unintentional deaths and injuries. Regular use is also linked to psychological problems, poorer lung health, and a higher likelihood of drug dependence in adulthood.” If cannabis use is made legal for adults, teenagers and those younger are certain to get hold of it.

Peer-reviewed research in Colorado has reported a five-fold increase in cannabis-related hospital emergency visits since 2014, the year in which recreational use of marijuana was legalised. Car accidents involving ‘stoned’ drivers have doubled too. Why the NZ government would want to even consider legalising cannabis for adults is odd considering it wants to increase road safety too!

There are factors to consider from a biblical point of view. We are told to live soberly and be alert at all times. Cannabis can lead to a drunken type of state. I’ve mentioned before the pastor who believes that taking cannabis can lead to a higher form of worship and Liz Flaherty’s response to the Christian cannabis movement, saying that her use ended when she yielded to the Holy Spirit. She no longer depends on cannabis to comfort her, to alleviate her mental health issues, or satisfy her need for (counterfeit) spiritual experiences.

Millions have also been allocated for helping methamphetamine addicts, especially in Northland. More than a third of the people who have died on Northland roads this year tested positive for drugs, and police fear the numbers will continue to rise. The Word of God warns us that in the end-times drug addiction will be a problem and that these people will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

In the US, a law is currently being proposed in Texas that would allow schools to identify students as mentally ill. The bill would require schools to set up “threat assessment teams” to single out students considered a suicide risk and turn them in to mental health authorities. Leaders of some 130 organizations are warning Texas Gov. Greg Abbott of the possible dangers of a proposed law designed to improve school safety. According to John Whitehead, president of the Rutherford Institute, “This program is part of a nationwide push to empower non-medically trained individuals to ‘identify,’ label and refer students for treatment who they believe may exhibit suicidal or mentally ill behavior. Worse, these threat assessments – no matter how inaccurate or subjective – could stigmatize a child for the rest of his or her life.” In NZ, we need to be aware that labelling a child as having a mental health problem can itself cause problems for the child and right through life too.

The big question is, do Christians with mental health issues need the sort of counselling that is being promoted? The Bible says no! See what Peter has to say: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” (2 Pet 1:3-11) Is God’s divine power sufficient to provide all that we need for mental health problems? Believers have the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, in them and they also have the support and help of other believers.

Martin and Deidre Bobgan of PsychoHeresy Awareness Ministries have much to say on the various forms of counselling by psychologists, psychotherapists, etc., that the government would like to see in GP clinics and the like. The Bobgans look at “Christ-Centered Ministry versus Problem-Centered Counseling.” The former puts Christ first, the latter the problem. People are tripartite: they have a body, soul and spirit. Psychologists only see a body and a soul and so focus on the person’s problem and ignore a spiritual component.

Although some counselling can help some people, there are concerns. Research has shown that people without any counselling training can be just as effective as trained counsellors if they are good at listening to people. Counselling is usually restricted to the counselling room and clients often lie about themselves. Counselling may continue for weeks or years without any improvement shown. The client may also become dependent on the therapist for any other problems too.

Christ-centred ministry is totally different, the focus being on Jesus Christ and not the problem. Many ordinary believers are already equipped, though they may not realise it, to help and support other believers with problems, loving them and continually pointing them to Christ and His Word.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit build you up and keep you strong in these challenging times.

The Oakland City Council in California has voted unanimously to decriminalise hallucinogenic fungi, otherwise known as “magic mushrooms.” Oakland is the second US city to decriminalise the natural hallucinogens.

A new poll has shown that 20% of Americans either don’t know or don’t believe the Holocaust happened. The poll also showed that the vast majority of Americans believe the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel is anti-Semitic.

Armed guards, safety assessments and now even a “Tactical Rabbi” to train volunteers on the use of weapons — such is the reality today at synagogues in the United States facing mounting anti-Semitic attacks.

The spread of the jihad doctrine in Western prisons has been feeding prison radicalization. In the UK, Muslim prison gangs are beating prisoners who won’t convert to Islam.

Taxpayers in Australia are outraged that the government has agreed to pay the global warming wizard and former US Vice President Al Gore $320,000 to conduct climate change leadership training for up to a 1000 people from across Australia and the Pacific. The three-day event in Brisbane is run by the Climate Reality Project and will see business and community leaders trained to be educators and take action with climate solutions, as the world moves to meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement. Back in 2009, Al Gore positively declared that the polar ice caps would melt away by 2014, and that the sea levels would rise many feet!

An Australian judge has sentenced a 26 year old Bangladeshi jihadist to a maximum sentence of 42 years in jail. Momena Shoma became the first person in Australia convicted of violent jihad. She tried to murder her homestay host in his suburban Melbourne house with a kitchen knife.

In NZ, leaflets spouting white supremacist ideology have been placed in some Tauranga mail boxes. The leaflet was headlined: “It’s ALRIGHT to be WHITE.” It called for white people to awake and “save the white race.” “YOU have no need to say ‘sorry’ because you are Nature’s Finest,” the leaflet said.

In Scotland, children have been forced to pray inside a mosque against their will. Christian students were forced to recite Islamic prayers and perform Wudu, the ritual washing. Muslim students are never forced to go on similar field trips to churches or synagogues. There is a double standard.

In Sweden, the openly gay bishop of Stockholm says that she has more in common with Muslims than “right-wing Christians.”

A liberal church in Texas is sponsoring a drag queen story hour for children after the local library cancelled the event.

A pastor was arrested in early June for preaching the gospel publicly in Toronto, Canada. He was arrested for preaching a message of love, healing and hope in an LGBT neighbourhood.

Some Catholic schools in Australia are teaching their pupils that God is ‘gender -neutral’ while banning words like ‘Father,’ ‘Son’ and ‘Lord’ from prayers.

High speed 5G and its rapidly increasing presence throughout the world will, in many ways, spell the end of life as we currently know it. Unlike 2G 3G, and even 4G, 5G functionality necessitates a massive grid of very densely-packed transmission towers and equipment, which means that exposure to it will be virtually inescapable. 5G is exceptionally harmful to children.

NZ’s 2019 “Wellbeing” budget is out. Nearly 2 billion will be spent over 5 years on mental health, requiring a greatly increased workforce, including mental health workers in GP clinics. But how will this help people who suffer addiction problems, are suicidal and even hysterical about the climate? And what should churches be doing?
